What is the Best Country to do your pilot training?
We will look at a couple different factors that come into play where looking for the best place to do your pilots licence. So what is the best country to do your pilot training?
Quality of training
Time to complete (weather)
The price is pretty self-explanatory. All you need to do is email some schools to get a quote and then compare them all.
There are 2 countries that have, in my opinion, fair prices and that is South Africa and the USA. The prices at most of these schools range from:
7,500 to 10,000 USD (USA)
R 130,000 to R 250,000 (RSA)
36,000 to 50,000 USD (USA)
R 450,000 to R 850,000 (RSA)
Quality of training
I can’t recommend any schools here but can give you some advice on what to look out for. First of all, what are the instructors like? Chat to them to get an idea of how professional they are. Read reviews of the school if there are any (not on their website because these may be quite bias). Have a look at their aircraft, pay particular attention to the condition they are in, if they look like they are well maintained and looked after generally the school will be run well.

Time to Complete
Time is money, I am sure we all know that. The longer you spend training the more you will be paying in accommodation fees, food etc
So, the sooner you can complete your course the better (without compromising the quality of your training). One of the big factors that comes into play is the weather. So, choosing a school that has good weather most of the year is essential to finishing the course in a timely manner. The drier the place the better, particularly for PPL stage of training.
Something else to look at is how many students each instructor has and how much time will he have for you. Generally, instructors try get as many students as possible to keep busy and make more money. I know this because I have been in the same position.
In conclusion it is all up to you on where you want to do your training. It depends on what is more important to you in the end and possibly you may be limited to visas and countries you are allowed to go to.
