The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) protects public health and the environment by supplying clean drinking water, collecting and treating wastewater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. We deliver 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water per day to 8.3 million New York City residents and more than 1 million people in Upstate New York, and we collect and treat an average of 1.3 billion gallons of wastewater per day.

DEP seeks to hire a Helicopter Pilot within the Bureau of Police & Security, located at the Hudson Valley Regional Airport, in Wappingers Falls NY. Under general direction, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, pilot aircraft at the discretion of the unit supervisor in accordance with FAA guidelines/directives and DEP Police Aviation Unit Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s). Receive direction from Aviation Unit Supervisor and/or other higher level supervisory personnel. As Pilot in Command, responsible for the safe operation of the aircraft in accordance with Federal Air Regulations (FARs). Participate in aircraft maintenance check flights; Perform daily aircraft preflight checks; Perform minor preventive maintenance on equipment, including washing/cleaning aircraft interior and exterior; Complete reports, maintain records and flight manuals for the agency’s Augusta AW119Kx Helicopters and any future aircraft. Stay abreast of new trends and innovations in rotary wing aviation.

Qualifications

Minimum of a High school diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by specialized flight training. If training is from a military source, must be able to provide appropriate documentation.

Possession of a current Commercial Certificate for rotorcraft issued by the Federal Aviation Administration and a current Class 1 or 2 medical certificate.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Must have a minimum of 2,000 total Helicopter Pilot in Command (PIC) Flight Hours (subject to verification) and 1,000 total Turbine Hours (subject to verification).

Currently is Certified as a FAA Flight Instructor (CFI) Rotorcraft.

Licenses and certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Preferred Skills

A minimum of 250 hours of Augusta AW119 Flight Hours, 50 Helicopter Night Flight Hours, Night Vision Goggles (NVG) experience, Prior military, law enforcement or utility experience, Helicopter flight currency within the past 6 months required.
